Green wisely doesn’t let his admiration of Alexander the general get in the way of his judgment of Alexander the man. Even if one gives AtG a pass on death and destruction caused in the normal course of war-making, it’s hard to overlook things like: crucifying 3,000 defeated soldiers; burning down an entire village because he needed timber for a bridge; massacring 7,000 Indian mercenaries and their wives and children after guaranteeing them safe passage; razing the city of Thebes and selling all remaining living citizens into slavery; and more.
