Look and tell me who’s *who**. Uncanny, isn’t it?
You’ve guessed it, I couldn’t stop till I watched whole two seasons. Mad about this Man. As if 30 years never happened. It’s the same personality, same mannerisms, same crooked smile, same cigarette ritual…
It’s funny, but I’ve never heard of the second actor, probably because I don’t have cable. I have seen Kissing Jessica Stein though, and don’t remember him.
The resemblance in terms of their features is striking. Although, the way the second photo is cropped makes it harder to discern.

You heard of Tikhonov, then? How?
His photo is not only cropped weirdly, it’s color-retouched: look at his lips. It was the best “portrait” available thru Google images, though – most of them are stills from 17 moments of spring, in black SS uniform. OK, i’ll change it to one of the later photos.
I haven’t heard of Hamm either – until these TV series.

That’s what I meant, it looks like he’s wearing lip gloss in the earlier photo, which I’m sure he wasn’t. The B&W photo is much better.
There was an actor-I can’t recall his name-who looked like the identical twin of Ronald Reagan, and another who looked almost exactly like Mikhail Gorbachev-minus the unsightly, continent-sized birth mark. The funny thing is that I can’t recall either of them ever playing those roles, even though there have probably been dozens of movies with at least fleeting appearances by those two public figures. Both men were character actors, IIRC.
I’m trying to think of two other actors who resemble each other so closely, but I’m drawing a blank at the moment.

You’ll remember it at the most inconvenient moment; that’s how it always happens to me.
There are a lot of people whose faces have average, common features prevalent in their ethnicity; blond blue-eyed upturned-nosed faces are common for Norse-heritage- populated areas, like Minnesota and Dakotas, for example. There is this ad for “Real Housewives” TV show – I remember thinking that all those women look alike, like members of one family.
Another example: Putin’s facial features are very common in middle-Russia (close-set eyes, high cheek bones, low forehead, thin straight hair, etc). Important for a man of his profession, I guess: to be able to dissolve on the street.
But faces like Tikhonov’s are rare; they possess a quality that I believe is called “piquant” – they are unmistakable in the crowd.
That’s why I think it’s amazing, that he has an almost twin in Hamm. Or, rather, his character in 17 moments… has a twin in Hamm’s character in Mad Men.

I don’t see the similarity. I think Richard Burton’s face is quite similar to Tikhonov’s (and melts my foolish heart in a similar manner)
