This morning was like a blast from the past. Near past, ~2007. That was the high time of blogs, when in one reading I would start on someone’s post, then chain-reacted to 20 others, with tangential or even unrelated info from the starting one, and will be enriched, enlightened and entertained in an hour and ready for action-packed weekend, in excellent spirits.
Clicked link there and got to a a delightful old post by Elizabeth Fourmont. Ah-ah, the olden days – I remember the green-golden feeling of young foliage and sun on a park bench that I always get from reading another post chez La Coquette! It is too bad she hasn’t written anything after 12/13. Scrolled down and to Reason #3 (yes, it’s Elisabeth in Gold Interior on the photo!) and tripped over the words Tom Swifties. Thought first it’s a cultural reference to some author or singer or book hero that escapes the foreign-raised me, as it often happens. So I googled it.
The truth is much more interesting!
Clicking further, I came over this collection of Tom Swifties by Mark Israel. One can lose herself there for ages…so far my favorite swiftyism:
“I collect fairy tales”, said Tom grimly.
Elizabeth’s own contribution deserves an inclusion: “My wife will frame this!” the ambassador said artfully.
