The Kindle. And Amazon, in particular.
Their “options” on my account page are as long as a bible, and just as useless.
I want a simple thing: to see on my PC the highlights I made while reading a book on Kindle. The highlights are only visible on Kindle screen, and to get to them one has to think like a robot (Home->Clippings ->aaaa! they are all bunched together, not in any order nor organization, not even chronology, and one can only flip page by page, all 34 of them (or 3000), to get to the one wanted). I wasted 2 hrs trying to find
-a place in My Account online where it’s even discussed
-posting variously phrased the same question on different “Kindle boards” and “email Amazon” dialog windows
-trying to find this simple menu item on my Manage Content page. Yes, I want to Manage my Content! my highlights and notes IS my content! – but all I see is a list of books I read, with info only important to Amazon (did I buy or borrow? was it “delivered” on my Cloud or to my Kindle? &) No content, in human meaning of the word.
On My Account page my “digital management” choices are for anybody but me:
- Manage Your Content and Devices
- Manage Your Cloud Subscriptions
- Your Amazon Music Settings
- Your Video Library
- Your Watchlist
- Your Games and Software Library
- Digital Gifts You Have Received
- Your Apps and Devices
- Amazon Instant Video Settings
Your Media Library
- Digital Music
- Bonus Items
- eDocs & Shorts
- Your Collection
None of this applies to me, except first 2 lines! How the hell it is MY account? Why would they even show all this stuff to someone who DOES NOT HAVE AND NEVER WANTED any of it? How the hell Settings include all this crap:
Manage Prime Membership / Amazon Student Membership/Amazon Mom Membership/ Manage Your Household/ Manage ‘Shipment/Updates via Text’/ Amazon Tax Exemption Program/Manage Login with Amazon/Register for a Business Account
-but do not contain anything remotely relative to me?
They came up with a fresh idea – a thing called “my collection” on a website called “kindle.amazon” (when you open it it reads backwards: “amazon kindle”. How apt! everything is backwards there). It gives you Terribly Important Statistic:
|Hope to Read:||0|
|Books with Public Notes:||0|
Why do I (or anyone) would want to know how many other people reading the book I am? Or how many other people highlighted a phrase I did? Or how many other people read the Public Notes I made while reading some book? Who the hell cares except Amazon Autistic Asperger Society?
I thought – maybe if I download latest software update to my Paperwhite Kindle I will somehow unlock the treasure chest with info I want. Ha! When I typed “Kindle Paperwhite software update” I got multiple icons, announcing “Paperwhite 5th Generation…7th Generaiton…” &&&
How the hell I know what “generation” my kindle is? Where it says “your devices” on that famous “Manage your Content and Devices” page they send me to all the time, it simply says “Paperwhite”, and the factory number.
If I’d now met anyone who wrote code for Amazon I would’ve killed them on the spot.
Got a message from Amazon Help desk in my inbox. A never-ending stream of fake niceties, signed “Ganisha” and not a word relevant to the question I asked. On the contrary, the moronic ass said “I see you have a problem with reading highlights on your device”. No, damn it! Not on my “device”. And I have a name, not mere “hello”. Read the question, idiot!
A 1000 boils on Amazon and its pseudo-English-speaking customer service.
