Not what you thought. {phewuuu!}
I need COCKtail advice.
Lately it just so happens that I find myself at parties of various degree of glamor, standing in front of the barkeep and drawing completely blank at their reasonable question: What would you like me to mix for you?
When I was under my ex’s influence I used to follow his example: ask for J&T. I found now I can’t stand taste nor smell of juniper.
5-6 yrs ago I was a strong proponent of Cosmo, then followed short period of Apple Martini, then there was a lull in my party career due to events we’ll discuss some other time. And now I look helplessly to a row of bright and colorful bottle labels and remain mum.
Any advice?
My default drink is Seven and Seven, a blend of 7Up and Seagram’s Seven Crown (about 9:1 ratio) over ice. In terms of kick, it is relatively wussy, which may be why I like it.

I had to google that – I am that ignorant! Thanks, Chaz, I’ll try 7&7 @next occasion

If my first cocktail, always a Ketel One martini, dry, up, with a couple of blue cheese olives. After that, typically a vodka tonic. If I don’t feel like drinking (i.e. at a business conference where I need my wits about me) I just order up tonic water with lime. That way the people who like to drink are more comfortable talking to me. I know that sounds dumb but it is true.
I would try different vodkas to see what you like and order a top shelf one rather than the terrible rail vodka which is typically hardly drinkable.

But if I wanted to drink vodka – why would I ruin it with other stuff? I know which one I like: Absolut. But it’s for private and rare occasions.
Both of these (martini and V+T) are too strong; I am past the age when one could afford some display of frivolity.
What do you think will suit me?

If you like rum, a rum and diet coke is always fun. Or you can start to delve into the Caribbean type drinks with rum and fruit juices.
