Walking up from “2” train subway @ Brooklyn Museum station, past terracotta maskarons in blue mosaic frames, past flags and bronze gates we enter the realm of blossoming azaleas and rhododendrons.
Then – down the steps to fragrant lilacs, further – to Cherry Esplanade and to spectacular display of blooming Japanese Peony Trees. They are relatively new for BBG: 300 trees were shipped to us as a gift after 9/11 from a small Japanese village where they are grown, “to comfort NYkers after the tragedy” – but while waiting for dock strike in California to end all trees died out of dehydration. Kind people of Japan sent another 300 to us next year – and these are what you see now. They are healthy, gorgeous and are a sight not to miss. Definitely uplifting if you were in a sour mood – I guarantee you.
As usual, see the whole batch at my right margin – or at this link.
