On the bus to work this morning I saw my former neighbor from 8 yrs ago, Helen. Our townhouses were next to each other, her late beagle Toughie was the sweetest thing imaginable, and the huge mulberry tree was staining black both our lawns… There wasn’t even a fence between our backyards.
The best thing about that townhouse was my garden. Something I created out of ~500s.f. of weeds-covered dump. When we bought the house and I finally got to clearing up the jungle I had to chop 12 young saplings of neighborly mulberry and maple and grass that was up to my waist. There were also finds: nails, bolts, metal scrap and a whole car transmission, oily as hell and as hell heavy.
When we sold the house the backyard was turned into a garden.
Well, you can see for yourself – no photos, but I have an old plan and first version of elevations:
So, why all the long story, you say to yourself. It’s just that Helen (remember Helen? former neighbor I met on the bus) Helen told me the people who we sold our house to sold it last year. And the new owners renovated the backyard. They “cleared the growth and filled it with asphalt, fence to fence”.
