- Received the check for $50 from Honeywell/Con Edison, utilities’ rebate for my two air conditioners. I bought them on June 15, remember? Same day I mailed rebate form to H. It took them 4.5 months!
- End of October, nights are cold and days becoming increasingly chilly; it has been decidedly freezing in my apartment – I wore warm socks and sweaters and slept under two woolen blankets. Finally super turned on the heat – and how! It is a sauna! I need to buy the room thermometer to see exactly how high it is, but even w/o it I’ll tell you: it’s unbearable. Yesterday I called the super and he came over, installed a control valve on the radiator (which doesn’t help a bit) and told me that “people on 6th floor complain of cold, so I have to turn the heat on”. But why go to such extremes? That’s a rare case when I’d welcome “middle of the road”. I have a glass+aluminum night table placed over radiator in my bedroom: the heat was on at 3am this morning and by 3:30 the table was impossible to touch. Normally aluminum and glass are not so easy to heat through air. I woke from nightmare, bathed in sweat, and shuffled to open the window. Outside it was 40F, inside – probably close to 100F. Took a cold shower, turned pillows, opened ALL windows in apartment – still the heat prevented me from falling asleep. And the stack pipes were screeching, adding more and more heat! I write this, seating in my underwear on sofa next to open window. My weather widget on laptop tells me temp outside is 42F…
- Today I’m going on a much anticipated Fall Foliage cruise up the Hudson, on a boat by Circle Line. It is scheduled to start from Pier 17, South Street Seaport at 12:30 and will take 5 hrs. I’m taking my camera!
- My printer was acting out again. Yesterday, just when I needed to print a fresh copy of my resume before leaving for interview, it put on a show that black ink cartridge was empty. I was forced to apologize at the interview that I didn’t bring a copy with me. And guess what? this morning it was printing fine, crisp lines. Mishigine.
