Just now the open window with my gmail had reverted to “log-in” position, after which I was told (that’s right) for my own security to enter my “mobile number”. The choices I was given: a window to type the number and a button saying “Remind me later”. No “Close”, no “Never”, no “I don’t wanna”, no “My phone is my private business”, no “Go away!”. All of which would be preferable to the one given.

Should you purchase an Android phone, and you want to use the integrated Google services, you’ll have to give ‘em your number.
I figure I’ve already sold my soul to Google – I use too many of their services to have much moral standing bitching about their terms. Otherwise, I’d be crabby!
I have a policy to not get invested into one brand too much. It was one of the reasons I choose for my platform WordPress rather than Blogspot (beside various technical aspects). My google involvement is limited with gmail and picasa – and the olatter only because I started using it before it was acquired by google.
And I would prefer to keep it this way. Monopoly is road to fascist hell.
I’ve managed to avoid this intrusion so far. When you use an android pad, you can create an account using a prepaid credit card that has little personal information.
I’ve no pads android or otherwise. Maybe it’s my loss…
Then again, Google Wallet is a tad less annoying than PayPal. (Of course, gastric distress is a tad less annoying than PayPal.)
Never heard of it! Maybe for the best.
