Fairly regularly I come across an opinion that
a) home or office renovation cost tremendous amount of money and b) that biggest part of that cost is designer’s fee. Often it is implied that this fee is also a frivolity, an unnecessary luxury, a money not well spent.Let’s put that assumption for future discussion; in a meanwhile let me ask you this.
Say, you decide to gut-renovate a room in your home; statistically most renovations occur in bathroom or kitchen, so let’s say it is your kitchen. You want to change the layout, install all new appliances and all new finishes. Consequently, some new plumbing and electrical work will be necessary. You will hire an architect or interior designer to plan, design, research and specify. Condition: designer does not act as construction manager and does not hire GC. [we are assuming you are not an NFL player and your ideas and budget are sane]
So here’s my poll.
In your opinion, which cost combination is closer to real life?

I really have no idea, but ten percent of the cost sounds reasonable to me.
